The Iconic Hitachi Magic Wand Review: Fourteen Years of Good Vibrations
If you know… you know.
And if you don’t know… that’s most likely why you are here.
To be IN the know.
The Hitachi Magic Wand.

What can you say about this incredible massager that literally no one uses for normal massage?
Well… quite a lot, actually.
I have owned mine for more than 14 years. It has survived my libido, my former career as an erotic masseuse & courtesan, countless orgasms and more use than I could possibly begin to calculate.
And it is still going.
So, if you have arrived here looking for a Hitachi Magic Wand review from someone who has actually put the thing through its paces for more than a decade, grab a drink and get comfortable.
We need to talk about this glorious little magician.
How the Hitachi Magic Wand Found Me
I began working as an erotic masseuse at the end of 2010 and later as a courtesan in 2013.
At the time, I had already experimented with quite a few toys and discovered that some simply weren’t as powerful as I wanted them to be. A few were tried, found wanting, and eventually ended up in the garbage.
One staple in my toy box was The Dolphin.
Oh, that poor little Dolphin.
Its vibrating and undulating shaft, combined with its glorious vibrating clitoral stimulator, had made it my definite go-to. It wasn't a cheap toy, either.
I used that thing so much that eventually I broke the mechanisms inside it.
🐬 She vibrated bravely. She undulated valiantly. She died in service.
So, when I say I actually use my toys, I mean it.
By the time Vancouver's annual Taboo Sex Show rolled around in approximately February of 2012, I had a solid year of my business under my belt and thought it would be a good opportunity to find some new items to add to my repertoire.
And then along came the Hitachi Magic Wand.
I could honestly feel it calling me.
I held it in my hand and turned it on.
And, well…
It turned me on.
Standing there, imagining that little nugget up against my little nugget…
Wowzers.
I did have to process the price for a moment. Spending more than $100 on a vibrator wasn't nothing.
But after holding it a little longer and realising its capacity for pleasure?
I was sold.
The Hitachi Magic Wand was not cheap.
But, as I would discover, it could absolutely hold its own.
The First Time
When I got home from the show, of course I had to try out my new plaything.
And W O W did it deliver.
I think I came in less than two minutes.
And it wasn't one of those wimpy little o's.
It was a BIG FUCKING O!
There have even been occasions since then when this thing has gotten me there in under a minute.
Now, I had to be really aroused already, that's for sure. The Magic Wand isn't actually magic.
But once the conditions were right?
It did its job.
And lived to vibrate another day.
The Hitachi Magic Wand Is INTENSE
This is probably the most important thing I can tell you about this machine:
The intensity is out of this world.
In all my years of owning this splendiferous device, I have never been able to comfortably place it directly against my skin. I always have an article of clothing or another piece of material between it and me.
If you can comfortably handle the full intensity of this little wonder directly against your body, let me know.
I will salute you.
Truly.
Mine is the classic corded, two-speed model.
I think I tried the high speed once.
LOL.
That was enough for me.
I lasted approximately five seconds — and I'm not talking about zero-to-orgasm.
I'm talking about:
FULL. ON. SENSORY. OVERLOAD.
That sucker packs some serious vibration, and you won't ever catch me voluntarily going back to high speed again.
Low is plenty.
More than plenty.
Who Would I NOT Recommend the Hitachi Magic Wand To?
If you are highly sensitive through the nerve endings of your body, you are probably one of the only people I would hesitate to recommend this to.
It may simply be too much.
Even the lowest setting on the classic Magic Wand is powerful, and my own need to use fabric as a buffer should tell you something.
Otherwise?
If you're up for some…
Good, good, good, good vibrations… 🎶🎵
I hope you hear The Beach Boys singing that in the background. 😉
…this may be your kind of toy.
Corded vs. Rechargeable: I Chose the Cord
One of the things I absolutely have to mention is that I purchased the Magic Wand that came with the cord.
And believe me…
I am glad I did.
I know many of you will argue with me.
“The cord holds you back!”
“Rechargeable is more convenient!”
“Who wants to be tethered to an electrical outlet?”
Fine.
But ladies, tell me:
Have you ever been right in the middle of enjoying your time with a toy and then, all of a sudden…
it goes dead?
How the fuck helpful is THAT?!?!?
No bueno!
My amazing two-speed mini jackhammer plugs into the wall and keeps right on going.
After more than 14 years, the cord has held up beautifully. The motor has held up. There is very little visible wear to the wand itself, and the vibration still feels every bit as intense to me as it did all those years ago.
Considering I previously managed to vibrate my poor Dolphin into the afterlife, I don't say that lightly.
Fourteen Years Later: Has It Actually Lasted?
Yes.
Unequivocally.
I purchased mine around 2012, which means this particular Magic Wand has now been with me for approximately 14 years.
The cord is still intact.
The wand shows very little wear.
And most importantly, I have not noticed a meaningful reduction in the intensity of the vibration.
That is impressive.
How exactly does one calculate the return on investment of a vibrator?
Cost per orgasm?
Dollars per year?
Minutes saved?
I have absolutely no idea.
But this thing has paid for itself many, many times over.
I am happy.
Very happy.
My Hitachi Magic Wand Review Includes Professional Experience, Too
My Magic Wand wasn't exclusively used for my own pleasure.
During my years as an erotic masseuse & courtesan, I also incorporated toys into some sessions when they were appropriate for the client.
Whenever I used a toy with another person, I always covered it with a condom. Always.
There was no cross-contamination happening on my watch. 😉
If you're sharing toys with another person, I strongly encourage you to educate yourself about appropriate barriers, cleaning and safer-sex practices.
We're all adults here.
I'm not going to preach to you about what you do behind closed doors.
Professionally, I found the strength of the Magic Wand particularly useful with some clients who had reduced sensation or nerve issues. Its broad, powerful vibration could provide stimulation that smaller toys simply couldn't match.
And some people found uses for that vibration that I certainly hadn't anticipated when I originally bought it.
Let's just say…
Human beings are creative.
What About Penetration?
This is worth mentioning because the Magic Wand isn't designed like the Dolphin I previously loved.
If penetration is an important part of your pleasure, you're going to need something else to use alongside this glorious magician.
Personally, I would not use the wand itself for vaginal penetration.
What you do behind closed doors?
Well…
You know the drill.
For me, the Magic Wand has always been about its extraordinary external vibration. If I want something else as part of the experience, I use something else.
The One Downside: This Thing Is Not Quiet
I do have one genuine complaint.
Noise.
The Magic Wand isn't exactly discreet.
If you want to overpower the noise it produces, there shouldn't be too much of a problem.
But if you're looking for some quiet private time and suddenly the kids are asking about that mysterious humming noise coming from the bathroom…
Well.
Let's just say you've been warned.
For me, that's a relatively minor drawback compared with its performance and longevity, but if discretion is essential in your living situation, it's something you should seriously consider.
Which Magic Wand Can You Buy Today?
A lot has changed since I bought mine.
For starters, you'll notice that the current products are branded simply Magic Wand®, rather than Hitachi Magic Wand. If you're searching for the legendary “Hitachi,” don't panic and assume it disappeared.
The Magic Wand family has also expanded considerably.
At the time of writing, Canadian shoppers can choose among five principal models. Because retailers set their own prices, these figures are a snapshot rather than a promise of what you'll pay forever.
Magic Wand Original — approximately $120–$160 CAD
This is the closest contemporary relative to the beast I've owned for more than 14 years: full-sized, corded and beautifully uncomplicated, with two speeds.
Magic Wand Plus — approximately $230 CAD
Still want the reliability of plugging into the wall but want more control? The Plus remains corded while offering four intensity levels and a silicone head.
Magic Wand Rechargeable — approximately $250 CAD
For those of you determined to escape the cord, here you go. The Rechargeable offers four intensity levels, vibration patterns and a silicone head. Importantly, it can also operate while connected to its power cord — which makes this considerably more interesting to a cord-loving woman like me.
Magic Wand Mini — approximately $230 CAD
A smaller rechargeable option with three intensity levels and up to approximately 2.5 hours of runtime.
Magic Wand Micro — approximately $150 CAD
And then there's this tiny little bastard.
At only a fraction of the size of the full Magic Wand, the rechargeable Micro offers three speeds and multiple vibration patterns.
Apparently the Magic Wand had babies while I wasn't paying attention.
Prices and availability change, so check current Canadian pricing before purchasing. And because counterfeit Magic Wands exist, I would also pay attention to whether you're buying from a reputable or authorised retailer rather than simply chasing the cheapest listing you can find.
Would I Buy the Hitachi Magic Wand Again?
Here's where my answer may surprise you.
If mine died tomorrow, would I immediately run out and replace it?
No.
That's because I now own another toy I genuinely enjoy: the Klitty by Svakom.
Having the Klitty means the sudden death of my beloved Magic Wand wouldn't leave me completely bereft.
Would I feel its loss?
Absolutely.
Would I eventually replace it?
100%.
And I think that's actually a stronger endorsement than telling you I'd panic-buy another one before the motor on this one had finished cooling down.
After 14 years, my toy box has changed.
My preferences have evolved.
Other excellent products have entered my life.
And yet…
I would still want a Magic Wand in it.
Final Thoughts: Is the Hitachi Magic Wand Worth It?
For me?
Hell yes.
I spent just over $100 on mine approximately 14 years ago.
It has outlived other toys.
It survived years of professional and personal use.
Its cord is still intact.
Its motor is still going.
Its vibration is still so bloody powerful that after all these years, I remain perfectly content on LOW.
It isn't quiet.
It isn't delicate.
It isn't particularly subtle.
And if you're extremely sensitive to intense vibration, it may not be the right choice for you.
But if you want power, longevity and the kind of reliability that has earned this ridiculous “neck massager” its legendary reputation…
There is a reason people are still talking about the Hitachi Magic Wand all these decades later.
If you know… you know.
And now?
You know. 😉
